A transfer agreement was nearly finalized, but Palace withdrew from the deal after failing to secure a replacement in time.
With the January window now representing their last chance to earn a fee, Palace risk losing Guehi for free when his contract expires next June.
Although Liverpool could still pursue him in 2026, reports suggest Guehi may now be leaning toward a different destination.
According to the Daily Mirror, “Mirror Sport have been told that Guehi’s number one choice is to move to the Bernabeu and snub Liverpool despite being agonisingly close to joining them on September 1.”
“He is excited by the prospect of playing abroad for the Spanish giants.”
If the move to Real Madrid materializes, Guehi would join fellow England stars Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the latter having made the switch from Liverpool earlier this year.
Real Madrid reportedly paid a fee to release Alexander-Arnold ahead of schedule so he could participate in the FIFA Club World Cup.
