Lisandro Martinez mocks Fulham star after winning battle in Man Utd win

Lisandro Martinez mentioned that he “sent Adama Traore to the gym” during their lively clash in Manchester United’s victory over Fulham on Friday night.

Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench to make his Red Devils debut and netted the game’s only goal in the 87th minute at Old Trafford.

While that was the decisive moment of the match, Martinez and Traore had some entertaining exchanges in the first half, with each player getting the upper hand at different times.

The speedy Fulham winger initially outpaced the Argentine defender to create a good opportunity early in the game. Although it didn’t result in a goal, it was a concerning moment for Martinez.

However, the sharp defender quickly adapted, and the next time Traore attempted to beat him, Martinez successfully won the ball, leaving Traore on the ground.

Reflecting on the footage of the Spanish international on the turf after their encounter, Martinez told Sky Sports: “I sent him to the gym!”

The Manchester United defender added, “He is tough to play against, and I learned from the first situation. In the first instance, he got the better of me, but I got him back.”

Manchester United’s performance wasn’t entirely convincing, but they did create some good chances and deserved the win, starting the season with an important victory.

“Of course, it is really important, and the most crucial thing is the three points—we still have a lot to improve,” Martinez said after playing both at center-back and occasionally filling in at left-back.

“It is challenging to play for this big club, but we live for that challenge and must approach it positively. We have to embrace this pressure, and like today, we had a good connection with the substitutes and fans as well—I am proud to play for this club.

“I haven’t played many games as a left full-back, but as a player, you have to give everything to the team. If the team needs me there, I will give my all. If I have to play in that position, I will give everything I have.”
