Angry Lisandro Martinez smacks chair as Antony & Diogo Dalot clash in Man Utd defeat

Lisandro Martinez was seen smacking a chair after being subbed off in Manchester United’s defeat at Newcastle while Antony and Diogo Dalot were seen having a heated full-time exchange at St James’ Park.

Goals from Joe Willock and Wilson secured a 2-0 win for Eddie Howe’s side as Newcastle got revenge for losing the Carabao Cup final in February.

The result moves the club above the Red Devils in the Premier League table, with Newcastle now third and United now fourth after a fiery clash in the north east.

Tempers flared at various points during the match, the most notable seeing United Martinez hitting a chair on the bench after Erik ten Hag substituted the Argentina international on 83 minutes.

Martinez and Raphael Varane were replaced by Lindelof and Facundo Pellistri as the Dutch coach made a tactical switch while chasing the game at 1-0 down.

‘Since the two centre backs have gone off, it has been a mess for United,’ Gary Neville said on the match commentary. ‘Howe, though, has not put a foot wrong.’

Newcastle scored again to finish them off and at full-time, Antony and Dalot were seen having a heated conversation while Bruno Fernandes had a scowl on his face and gestured at a team-mate.

Meanwhile, in the first-half, Marcus Rashford lost his head as he threw his boot on the ground after referee Stuart Attwell denied him a free-kick after he was clipped by Dan Burn.

The challenge saw the England international’s boot come flying off but no foul was given.

Former England winger Chris Waddle was critical of Rashford’s display at full-time as he told the BBC: ‘Rashford has been nowhere to be seen.

‘His performance today has been very poor.’
