United secured back-to-back wins with another three points at one of their favored away venues, thanks to Martinez’s heavily deflected strike.
That goal was United’s only shot on target, as Hojlund was ineffective for an hour, and Zirkzee made little impact after coming off the bench.
Danish striker Hojlund has gone 11 games without scoring and has only two league goals this season, while Zirkzee has netted just once in his last 14 appearances.
Martinez believes the team can do more to provide better service to the forwards but has also challenged Hojlund and Zirkzee to improve their performances leading the attack.
“We take the responsibility,” Martinez said. “I think we played many long balls to them and for them it’s really tough.
“They fight against two centre-backs and the centre-backs here in the Premier League are really difficult to win something. But they have to do better as well.
“They are really good players but we have to contribute more and put them in a better space or place on the pitch.
“We have to find them in the right places and dangerous places to make them score.”
Amorim claims the problem remains a collective one for a team that has only scored 28 times in 23 Premier League matches – with even Tottenham scoring 46 goals so far this campaign.
Martinez joked that his goal was “amazing” and “a great finish” after the ball nicked off Fulham’s Sasa Lukic to loop over goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
But he added: “You just have to read the situation and have the right timing. When you are confident the goals go in. I went with 100 per cent of my confidence and the ball goes in, that’s it.”
Man United travel to Bucharest to face FCSB on Thursday looking for a third straight win in all competitions and they know a draw would guarantee them a place in the next round.
Martinez continued: “We’re ok, I’m not going to talk about confidence and that kind of thing, I don’t want to make something wrong. But we’re happy and for sure when you win the confidence goes up.
“Now we have to be humble, we have to keep this momentum, for sure. It’s an amazing feeling when you win but we have to be humble.”
