Ruben Amorim’s squad benefited from Robert Sanchez’s reckless tackle on Bryan Mbeumo early in the match, which resulted in the Spaniard receiving a straight red card.
The match was balanced again shortly before the break when Casemiro was dismissed after accumulating two yellow cards.
Ultimately, United managed to secure a crucial win, bringing an end to Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.
Reflecting on the result, Amorim stated: “We started the game really well, really aggressive. We were so aggressive in the second balls. We had the sending off with Casemiro, we like to complicate our game always but it was a good day! I felt the urgency, of course the sending off helped us. We had to be more clinical to finish the game off sooner.”
Following the final whistle, a clip surfaced online capturing a moment between Mount and Fernandez. In the video, Mount and Fernandez were involved in pushing and shoving each other.
Their teammates eventually stepped in to separate them. This wasn’t the first clash between Mount and Fernandez.
In April 2024, during Chelsea’s thrilling 4-3 win over United at Stamford Bridge, the two players had another confrontation.
After Cole Palmer’s decisive goal, Fernandez was spotted thumping the Chelsea badge in front of Mount and shouting at the former Stamford Bridge academy product.
That incident occurred after Mount kicked the ball away in what appeared to be an attempt to waste time, prompting Fernandez to react and confronted the United man about, leading to both players pushing one another and locking foreheads.
On that occasion, Fernandez and Chelsea celebrated a memorable triumph.
United will return to Premier League duties next weekend as they face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
