Kylian Mbappe was one of the many who responded to an Instagram post by Marcus Rashford after England’s exit from the World Cup on Saturday.

England suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Mbappe’s France in the quarter-final stage, despite being the stronger team.

Aurelien Tchouameni opened the scoring for France with a long-range strike, before Harry Kane equalized from the penalty spot early on in the second half.

Olivier Giroud scored what proved to be the decisive goal of the game on 78 minutes, before Kane hit a second penalty over the bar.

It was a tough result to take for Gareth Southgate’s side, who did little wrong in the 90 minutes and saw good displays from the likes of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice & Kane himself.

But it was not to be, with the result leaving England stars & fans devastated. Rashford was England’s joint top scorer in Qatar alongside Saka, netting three times.

It was a good tournament for the 25-year-old, who was one of England’s top stars when on the pitch.

He scored a superb long-range free kick against Wales in the group stage, and was unlucky not to repeat the feat with the last kick of the match on Saturday as his effort hit the top of the net.

The Manchester United forward had little time to influence the game otherwise, however, playing as a substitute from the 85th minute.

Taking to Instagram after the game, he said: “The last few weeks have been a rollercoaster of emotions, each and every one of our team gave everything we had to be ready for what was thrown at us, we got close, but not close enough.

“I’ll make a promise that we will come again! Thank you for the unconditional support we have received throughout the tournament, it hasn’t gone unnoticed.”

Mbappe left Rashford a love heart emoji on his post – a sign of the mutual respect between both players after a huge contest World Cup quarter final.

Rashford later responded by saying: “Good luck with the rest of the tournament brother! Go smash it king.”
