United are focused on strengthening Ruben Amorim’s attacking options ahead of the new season and have already completed a £62.5 million deal for Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
The club is also in search of a new striker, but their plans took a hit when Liam Delap opted to join Chelsea instead of accepting a £30 million move to United.
Negotiations for Mbeumo have been ongoing, but United have yet to reach an agreement with Brentford. Their initial bid of £55 million, including add-ons, was rejected last week.
Following Thomas Frank’s appointment as Tottenham’s new manager, Spurs have entered the race for Mbeumo, submitting a £70 million bid—£65 million upfront with an additional £5 million in bonuses.
Frank’s long-standing relationship with Mbeumo, having coached him for six seasons at Brentford, could give Spurs an edge in securing the forward.
However, reports suggest that Mbeumo remains committed to joining United, having previously indicated that Old Trafford is his preferred destination.
While Tottenham are still in contention, Mbeumo is reportedly intrigued by their managerial change, which saw Frank replace Ange Postecoglou.
Brentford are holding firm on their valuation, seeking at least £60 million for the 25-year-old, who netted 20 Premier League goals last season.
Meanwhile, Spurs are also considering Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo as an alternative if their pursuit of Mbeumo does not materialize.
