Lionel Messi reveals last club he will play for ahead of Copa America

Lionel Messi has recently discussed his future, indicating that he may be considering retirement.

Throughout his career, Messi has consistently set new benchmarks, solidifying his status as one of the greatest footballers ever.

Following Argentina’s victory at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Messi was widely acclaimed as the greatest of all time (GOAT) in football.

In the previous summer, Messi departed from Paris Saint-Germain to join Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami.

Since his move, he has scored 25 goals in 29 appearances and has been reunited with former teammates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba at the club.

At 36 years old, Messi is nearing the twilight of his career. Recent reports suggest that Messi has revealed his intended final club for retirement.

ESPN Argentina has reported that Messi plans to retire at Inter Miami.

He said: “Inter Miami will be my last club, yes. As of today, it’s gonna be my last one.

“I love playing football, I enjoy everything much more because I am aware that every time there’s less and less.”

It might be unexpected for some, as there was a widespread belief that Messi would conclude his career with Newell’s Old Boys, the club where he began his journey.

In 2023, El Nacional reported that Messi had plans to return to Newell’s Old Boys upon the expiration of his contract with Inter Miami in 2025.

In March, Messi expressed that he intends to retire from football when he feels he can no longer contribute effectively to his team’s success.

He said on MBC’s Big Time Podcast, as per ESPN: “I know that the moment that I know that I’m not performing, that I’m not enjoying myself, that I’m not helping my teammates.

“I am very self-critical. I know when I am good, when I am bad, when I play well, when I play badly… And when I feel it is time to take that step, I will take it without thinking about age. If I feel good, I will always try to continue competing, because it is what I like and what I know how to do.”
