Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel believes there are four players who should be regulars in the starting XI: Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Moises Caicedo, and Cole Palmer.
Mikel said on The Obi One Podcast: “You can tell this is a Caicedo team. He’s the man. He’s the number one player on the teamsheet right now. It’s him, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana and Cole Palmer. For me, these are the four players that have to start for us.”
Chelsea made plans over the summer to establish Fofana and Colwill as their main central defenders, a strategy they’ve largely adhered to.
In fact, the pair have started together in 10 of the first 11 Premier League games this season, with the only exception being when Fofana served a suspension.
Caicedo, who has brought renewed energy to Chelsea’s midfield, has featured in every league match so far. Fans are even beginning to see him as a potential captain, especially after his recent strong performance against Arsenal.
Palmer, meanwhile, has become the creative spark in Chelsea’s attack, continuing his standout form from last season.
While Chelsea still has room for improvement—like reducing defensive errors and finishing more clinically in attack—the team’s progress toward a top-four finish looks promising.
