Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly told friends he would ‘seriously consider’ taking over from Rafa Benitez as Newcastle United manager, according to reports.
Dubai-based billionaire Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan has made a £350 million bid to buy Newcastle from Mike Ashley this summer.
Benitez, meanwhile, is yet to agree a new deal with Newcastle and his current contract is set to expire at the end of this month.
According to the Sunday Mirror, Sheikh Khaled is lining up several targets to replace Raphael Benitez and Jose Mourinho is on his shortlist.
The report also claims that the Portuguese manager has told his friends that he would give the Newcastle job a serious consideration.
Mourinho has openly conceded that he admires Newcastle, who were previously managed by his mentor Sir Bobby Robson.
‘I like to go there. I like the feeling of going to Mr Robson’s home,’ Mourinho said last year.
‘I like that feeling. I like the stadium. I like the atmosphere. They are a good, enthusiastic crowd. I like the Geordies.’
Former Chelsea boss Mourinho has been out of a job since he was sacked by in the Premier League by Manchester United in December.
