Jose Mourinho turned down the opportunity to return to Real Madrid before the La Liga giants turned their attention to Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The former Chelsea coach signed a three-year contract with Roma last month, making a swift return to football after being sacked by Tottenham in April.
But, Mourinho may be regretting his decision to join Roma as a number of top jobs – including Madrid, Inter Milan and Everton – have become available in the last fortnight, while Pochettino could also leave PSG.
Mourinho has been linked with a return to the Bernabeu since his exit in 2013 after a three-year stint with the Spanish team and he has a good relationship with president Florentino Perez.
Perez contacted Mourinho just last week to discuss replacing Zinedine Zidane but the Telegraph claim that he rejected the approach as he’s excited about a return to Serie A with Roma.
Madrid then turned their attention to former head coach Ancelotti and discussions took less than 48 hours for the Italian to leave Everton.
Mourinho was sacked after only 18 months with Spurs. Chairman Daniel Levy was unhappy with the style of football being played and sacked Mourinho less than a week before the Carabao Cup final against Man City.
