Nemanja Matic pulls out of Serbia team with back injury

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has pulls out of Serbia’s squad for their UEFA Nations League games in Montenegro and Romania due to an injury.

The back injury means he is a doubt for United’s Premier League match against former club Chelsea on October 20, according to Sky Sports.

United confirmed Matic has returned to the Aon Training Complex to complete his rehabilitation under the guidance of the club, having left for international duty after he featured in United’s 3-2 victory over Newcastle.

The 30-year-old has played eight games in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s side this campaign, but could miss the chance to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Matic made more than 150 appearances for Chelsea before linking up once again with Mourinho last year.

The news of Matic’s back injury comes a day after Luke Shaw pulled out of the England squad for their games against Croatia and Spain.

Serbia will also be without their captain Aleksandar Kolarov for their two matches due to injury.
