Cole Palmer given bizarre nickname by Chelsea team-mates due to one habit

Cole Palmer has earned an unusual new nickname from one of his Chelsea teammates because of one of his peculiar habits.

Palmer had an outstanding debut season at Chelsea after his move from Manchester City last summer, scoring 25 goals and providing 15 assists across all competitions.

The 21-year-old was named Chelsea’s player of the season and also won the Premier League Young Player of the Season award. His stellar performance earned him a spot in England’s 26-man squad for Euro 2024 this summer.

Given his impressive form, it’s no wonder Palmer has become a fan favorite at Stamford Bridge. Fans have dubbed him ‘Cold Palmer’ due to his composed demeanor and calmness during high-pressure situations, like taking penalties.

Embracing the nickname, Palmer often mimics a shivering gesture when celebrating his goals.

However, Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic has a different nickname for him.

Petrovic, like Palmer, joined Chelsea last summer and quickly became a regular starter. Replacing Robert Sanchez, the Serbian goalkeeper kept seven clean sheets in 31 appearances.

While speaking in a club interview, Petrovic said: “Cole is an amazing guy, always relaxed… maybe even more on the pitch than off it. He has had an amazing season and helped the team a lot.

“Sometimes we have lunch together and I have beetroot a lot, most times. So, Cole gave me the nickname Beetroot.

“I needed one for him and he eats a lot of beans, which I think is normal for English people, so he is now Beans.

“I know people call him Cold Palmer, which is a correct nickname for him, but for me he is Beans.”

Petrovic and Palmer might face off when England takes on Serbia in their Euro 2024 opener on June 16, although the goalkeeper is not anticipated to start.
