Following the match, Palmer shared a screenshot on his Instagram story of a Snapchat exchange between himself and Rogers.
In the conversation, which likely occurred before Sunday’s clash, Rogers confidently predicted that Palmer wouldn’t score against Villa, a claim Palmer decisively proved wrong.
Chelsea star Palmer responded by telling his Villa opponent: ‘Player of the Match is comin [sic] back with me.’
Palmer delivered on the pitch, with his Man of the Match trophy visibly placed in the background of his Instagram story, alongside the Snapchat exchange with Rogers.
The two share a strong bond, having come through Manchester City’s academy together.
Earlier this season, Rogers humorously accused Palmer of adopting his signature celebration as his own.
‘Yeah, it’s true [that Palmer stole my celebration],’ Rogers said. ‘I’ll let him have it.
‘He’s scored 40 goals or something stupid. Can’t really argue with that, can I?’
Rogers has had a solid season for Villa, contributing to five goals in 13 Premier League appearances.
However, Palmer has outshone him, with an impressive record of eight goals and six assists in the same number of games.
Palmer will aim to continue his fine form on Wednesday when Chelsea take on Southampton at St Mary’s.
