Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes his former club should make a transfer move for Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil.
The German midfielder has played just two matches for Arsenal so far this season and has been left out of the Gunners’ last five matchday squads by Unai Emery.
The playmaker signed a new long-term contract worth around £350,000-a-week just four months before Emery arrived at the club and the Spaniard wants to sell the him to raise funds.
Manchester United beat Partizan Belgrade in Serbia on Thursday but Anthony Martial’s goal from the penalty spot was the side’s only shot on target in the game.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on adding creativity to his midfield and Scholes thinks Mesut Ozil could be the right answer.
‘Man Utd could do with someone like Ozil who can link a team together,’ Scholes told BT Sport.
‘[He is] a player who can link teams together. He has got great quality, he’s shown that in his career.
‘He could be an answer short-term, I don’t know. I think that would be up to him, ultimately. ‘I can’t [see it happening], but he’s the type of player, short-term, who United could do with.’
Jose Mourinho was keen on signing Ozil in 2018 but the midfielder was intent on staying at the Emirates.
He recently reiterated his desire to stay at the club but Emery shows no signs of reversing his treatment of the former Real Madrid star.
