Following Chelsea’s loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, Mauricio Pochettino seemed to ignore Todd Boehly while receiving his runners-up medal, creating an awkward moment.
The 64th League Cup final seemed headed for penalties until Virgil van Dijk scored from Konstantinos Tsimikas’ corner in the 118th minute, sparking jubilation among Liverpool supporters at Wembley.

Pochettino, visibly distraught, seemed on the verge of tears at the final whistle, having missed out on his first English football trophy.
Despite his disappointment, he had to face the uncomfortable task of accepting his runners-up medal, walking past a red-faced Boehly, Chelsea’s owner and chairman, who was seemingly ignored.

During his commentary on Sky Sports, former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville labeled Pochettino’s players as ‘billion-pound bottle jobs’.
Since Boehly’s acquisition of Stamford Bridge in 2022, Chelsea has splurged over £1 billion on new signings but has failed to secure any trophies, currently residing in seventh place in the Premier League this season.
‘In extra time it’s been Klopp’s kids against the blue, billion pound bottle jobs,’ Neville said.
‘Liverpool absolutely sensational, those young players incredible, he must be so proud. But for Chelsea I’ve got no sympathy whatsoever.
‘I cannot believe Chelsea in extra-time, what has happened to them? From the very first minute of extra time they haven’t played, they haven’t turned up.
‘He [Pochettino] must be absolutely gutted.’
