Graham Potter responds to potential Cristiano Ronaldo signing

Chelsea head coach Graham Potter is ‘unenthused’ by the possibility of signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United, according to reports.

Ronaldo’s second stint at the theatre of dreams appears to be over after the 37-year-old slammed Erik ten Hag and the club’s hierarchy in an interview with Piers Morgan.

And peaking about Ten Hag, Ronaldo said: ‘I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me. ‘If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.’

United are now considering the option of terminating the player’s contract, which still has up to seven months to run and is worth in excess of £500,000 per week.

Chelsea’s co-owner Todd Boehly had explored the possibility of signing Ronaldo in the summer when the Portuguese star was pushing to leave Old Trafford.

But Boehly’s advances were met with resistance by Chelsea’s then manager, Thomas Tuchel, who was eventually sacked in September.

It’s believed that Tuchel raised huge concerns to Boehly about upsetting the dressing room with Ronaldo’s arrival.

According to MailOnline, Boehly could reignite his interest in Ronaldo and may hold more discussions with Jorge Mendes over a potential deal.

But Potter is said to be as ‘equally unenthused’ as Tuchel at the prospect of having Ronaldo in his squad.

Meanwhile, Mendes is said to be in discussions with Bayern Munich over a possible deal for Ronaldo.

The German champions were offered the opportunity to sign Ronaldo in the summer but rejected the chance.

‘I love Cristiano Ronaldo, fantastic player but every club has a philosophy and I’m not sure if it would be the right signal for Bayern and Bundesliga if we signed him now. Such a move does not necessarily fit with our ideas,’ Bayern’s CEO Oliver Kahn said.
