using ‘offensive, insulting, or abusive language,’ as confirmed by the Premier League.
Full-time at Goodison Park saw tempers rise after James Tarkowski’s last-minute goal secured a 2-2 draw for Everton against Liverpool, the Premier League leaders.
Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones were both shown red cards following a mass brawl instigated by Doucoure’s taunting of Liverpool fans.
Slot also received a red card after approaching referee Michael Oliver at full-time and will now serve a two-match touchline ban.
A short statement on the Premier League website said: ‘Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was dismissed at the end of the Merseyside derby for using offensive, insulting, or abusive language.’
While Slot’s sending off meant he was unable to speak to the media after the match, the Dutchman felt that there was a foul in the build-up to Everton’s equaliser.
After receiving his marching orders from Oliver, a second camera caught the Liverpool boss asking the referee: ‘You gave me a red for that?!’
In addition to Slot, Liverpool’s assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff was also dismissed after the match and will serve a touchline ban.
Assistant coach John Heitinga will now take charge on the touchline when Liverpool hosts Wolves on Sunday.
Slot wasn’t alone in his dissatisfaction with Oliver’s officiating, as former referee chief Keith Hackett described the performance as ‘weak.’
‘The celebration of goals creates dangerous crowd surges. Thought Oliver was weak,’ Hackett wrote on social media.
The former referee added: ‘There was a lot wrong in this performance from Oliver. You are only has good as your last game. I would not be happy with that effort by him.’
Oliver found himself at the heart of controversy late last month due to his decision to send off Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly during their match against Wolves.
Arsenal successfully appealed the red card, leading Micah Richards to call it the ‘worst decision in Premier League history’.
