Premier League supercomputer predicts title winners, top four after Liverpool beat Man City

The major headline from this weekend’s Premier League action is Manchester City falling 11 points behind the leaders, signaling a likely end to their reign as champions.

The statistics now suggest that the league will crown a new titleholder in May. City’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool marked their fourth consecutive league loss and extended their winless streak across all competitions to seven matches.

They currently sit fifth, outside the Champions League spots, and face Nottingham Forest on Wednesday as they look to bounce back. ..Continue Reading

Liverpool, meanwhile, have surged to the top of the table, holding a nine-point advantage over their nearest challengers, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Arsenal secured a win at West Ham, while Chelsea triumphed over Aston Villa to stay in contention.

According to a supercomputer analysis by Casino Hawks, Pep Guardiola’s hopes of securing a fifth consecutive league title are effectively over.

The projections favor Liverpool to clinch their first Premier League trophy since 2020, when they amassed 99 points under Jürgen Klopp.

The forecast predicts a tight race, with Arsenal finishing just three points behind Liverpool in second place. City are expected to land in third, seven points further back, followed by Chelsea in fourth.

Tottenham, sitting fifth, could still qualify for the Champions League, depending on English clubs’ performances in Europe this season.

Manchester United, under new manager Ruben Amorim, have shown promise but are not expected to secure European qualification through their league position.

The supercomputer predicts United will remain in ninth, trailing Brighton, Newcastle, and Brentford. However, they still have opportunities through cup competitions, as they prepare for a Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham and hold a Europa League playoff spot.

United’s interim manager last season, Ruud van Nistelrooy, managed to deliver results across competitions but now faces a different challenge with Leicester City, aiming to avoid relegation.

The supercomputer forecasts a grim outcome for the Foxes, predicting they will finish in the bottom three alongside fellow newly-promoted clubs Ipswich and Southampton.

Despite Liverpool’s commanding lead, manager Arne Slot remains cautious. After their 2-0 victory over City, he emphasized the strength of the teams chasing them, ensuring that the title race is far from over.

“I don’t think anyone, including me, would have predicted this [start],” Slot said. “I knew Jurgen [Klopp] left the team in a very good place.

“But, still, to win so much with all the difficult teams we have played already is not something you could predict at the start of the season. But, like I say, I saw Arsenal yesterday and Chelsea today and I saw City.

“They will come back because these teams have so much quality. They could go on the same run as us, so we have to stay sharp and focused.”
