Christian Pulisic provides injury update after being taken to hospital

Christian Pulisic is confident he will be ready for USA’s World Cup last 16 clash against the Netherlands.

The Chelsea star scored his side’s winning goal in their final group game against Iran, latching onto Segino Dest’s cross to head home towards the end of the first-half.

Pulisic crashed into Iran shot-stopper Alireza in the process however and the player was left needing treatment from the US medical staff.

While he was able to return to the pitch to see out the end of the first half, he was eventually replaced at half-time.

Reports later emerged the 24-year-old attacker had been taken to hospital to undergo scans on an abdominal injury.

Despite fears over his participation in Saturday’s huge clash with the Dutch, Pulisic has said he will be back for that game.

‘So f*****g proud of my guys, I’ll be ready Saturday don’t worry,’ Pulisic wrote alongside a picture of him celebrating the victory from his hospital bed.

Pulisic’s goal was enough to seal USA’s place in the next stages of the World Cup, qualifying as group runners up behind England.

Teammates Timothy Weah and Weston McKennie paid huge tribute to the Chelsea forward for putting his body on the line to help his country go through.

‘We worked so hard as a group to be in this position,’ Lille forward Weah said. ‘Thanks to Christian. We love him and we thank him. It’s a great feeling.’

Juventus midfielder McKennie added: ‘Obviously we’re very thankful (Pulisic) threw his body there.

‘But we have 25 guys other than Christian who would do the same thing.

‘Everybody is ready to give everything. It’s unfortunate he had to come out but the fact he’s throwing his body on the line tells you how close this team is.’
