It has been reported that Rafael Leao has decided which club he wants to sign for after his time at AC Milan.
The Portuguese international has been a key player for Milan in recent seasons but has occasionally fallen out of favor with manager Paulo Fonseca this term.
This situation has sparked speculation about Leao’s future, with links to clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal. ..Continue Reading
However, MilanLive claims Leao prefers a move to La Liga giants Barcelona over Premier League clubs.
Additionally, Spanish publication Marca reports that Leao’s agent, Jorge Mendes, also supports a move to Barcelona.
Barcelona is reportedly looking to bolster their wide options next year, with Ansu Fati unlikely to remain under Hansi Flick’s management.
Although Nico Williams was linked to Barcelona last summer, a deal for the Spain international might be complicated due to his price and competition from other clubs.
Leao is another option, with Marca stating that he wants to leave AC Milan. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has always backed a move for the 25-year-old, but it would be a costly transfer.
Leao’s agent, Mendes, who has a strong relationship with Barcelona, has reportedly always wanted his client to join the Catalan club.
However, Financial Fair Play regulations could pose a challenge, with Leao’s asking price believed to be around €75 million (£62 million).
Additionally, a move for Leao doesn’t seem to have the support of sporting director Deco and manager Flick, who both think the player has shown attitude issues at Milan.
In a 2023 interview with Gaffer magazine, Leao expressed openness to a move to the Premier League.
He said: “I think every player wants to play in the Premier League because it’s a very competitive league.
“It has engaging football, great teams and a worldwide audience. Serie A is currently very well positioned in the football world but I would definitely have to say the Premier League in the future.”
