During the warm-up for Wednesday’s match against Newcastle, Marcus Rashford found himself in a tense exchange with a Manchester United supporter.
A video that circulated on social media before the Premier League game at Old Trafford captured a fan hurling indistinct insults at Rashford.

The player fixed his gaze on the heckler, visibly upset by the remarks, until another fan promptly came to Rashford’s support.
‘Just leave him alone!’ The second fan shouted at the supporter who was aiming the abuse at the England forward. ‘Rashford, don’t listen to him!’
Rashford ignored that advice, though, and abandoned his warm-up to walk over to the abusive supporter and give him a piece of his mind, which was inaudible.
The viral clip was posted by @JacobHorsfall_ on X with caption: ‘This treatment of Rashford is just going too far, can see it’s clearly getting to him too.’
Rashford has experienced a challenging season at Manchester United, scoring only eight times in 40 appearances across all tournaments, marking a significant decline from his performance in the 2022-23 season.
Wow. A guy next to me from Brazil filmed this. Some guy was giving Marcus Rashford abuse as he warmed up. I stuck up for Marcus. No need at all. pic.twitter.com/m3itGJu3iI

Amidst considerable scrutiny from commentators regarding his form, Rashford addressed the criticism in an open letter published in February.
In April, Manchester United’s manager Erik ten Hag expressed considerable empathy for Rashford’s situation.
’I’ve got a lot of sympathy for Rashy, of course,’ Ten Hag said. ‘Last year, he had a brilliant season. I think the best season in his career, he scored 30 goals.
‘This season, he didn’t give the performances and people have been very critical. We have to back him.
‘Everyone should back him to get back to the levels of last year. I think he needs the support.
‘We all know what he’s capable of, we all have to support and push him. He can do better than this year. We saw last year when he was really brilliant.’
