Marcus Rashford has spoken out following Ruben Amorim’s harsh remarks after Manchester United’s victory over Fulham.
A late goal from Lisandro Martinez secured a vital win for United at Craven Cottage on Sunday evening.
Despite persistent rumors about his potential departure this month, star winger Rashford was again excluded from the matchday squad and was later seemingly criticized by Amorim. ..Continue Reading
Rashford has now seemingly responded to both the match result and the Portuguese manager’s comments.
Rashford has not played for United since he revealed his desire for a “new challenge” during an interview with Henry Winter, with his last appearance being the 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on December 12.
However, his lack of playing time and falling out of favor with Amorim has not stopped Rashford from showing support for his boyhood club both in person and online.
After the significant late victory on Sunday, Rashford posted on his Instagram story, saying: “Congratulations on the win lads.”
While the 27-year-old’s social media post could simply be congratulating his teammates, some speculate that the direct message, combined with the plain black background, might also be a response to his manager’s post-match comments.
After the game, Amorim was asked why Rashford was not selected, and he replied that he would rather choose United’s 63-year-old goalkeeping coach for the bench due to Rashford’s lack of effort in training.
“It’s always the same reason – the training, the way I see a footballer should do in life. It’s every day, every detail,” said Amorim.
“If things don’t change, I will not change. It’s the same situation for every player, if you do the maximum and right things we can use every player.
“You can see on the bench we miss a bit of pace on the bench, but I would put [Manchester United goalkeeper coach Jorge] Vital before a player who doesn’t give the maximum every day.”
