On one side, many argue for Ronaldo, the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus star, who holds the record for the most goals scored at club and international levels.
On the other side, others favor Messi, the Argentine maestro who has won eight Ballon d’Ors, six European Golden Boots, and three International Golden Balls during his glittering, trophy-filled career.
While legends like Pele, Diego Maradona, and Johan Cruyff are sometimes included in the debate, Messi and Ronaldo remain the central figures in the discussion.
So, where does Rashford stand? In a 2018 interview with CNN, the Manchester United forward was asked for his opinion on Messi.
“Some of the stuff that he does is unbelievable,” he said. “I’m a big fan of [Cristiano] Ronaldo as well, but I think Messi is the greatest ever.”
Rashford also revealed his admiration for Brazilian duo Ronaldinho and ‘R9’ Ronaldo.
“I think watching the Brazil team with the likes of Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and those type of players was one of my favorite experiences,” he added.
Earlier this year, Marcus Rashford left himself out while selecting his dream Manchester United six-a-side team, which included Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, and David De Gea.
At 26, with over 400 senior appearances for United since his 2016 debut, Rashford was asked to choose his ideal team during a Q&A session on Instagram Live.
Considering the incredible players he has played with and watched over the years at Old Trafford, narrowing it down to just six must have been a tough choice.
However, the England forward did a commendable job of justifying his selections.
“Right, I’m going to go with most players from the teams that I watched when I was growing up,” he began. “I’d probably have [David] De Gea, but it was a close one between him and [Edwin] Van der Sar.
“When I was a kid Van der Sar was one of the best keepers and obviously playing with David has been great, so I’d have to put David in there.”
