He had previously spent the latter part of the 2024/25 season at Aston Villa, having fallen out of favor with manager Ruben Amorim.
Rashford was hoping to reignite his form and career with the Catalan side.
The 27-year-old was formally introduced as a Barcelona player on Wednesday, appearing alongside club president Joan Laporta.
However, reports now indicate that the deal has been terminated due to what’s being described as a significant breach of the agreement.
A statement read: “Barcelona announces that it has been obliged to suspend its participation in the game scheduled for next Sunday in Japan due to serious contractual breaches on behalf of the promotor.
“Nevertheless, the club will consider readjusting the leg of the summer tour in South Korea, where two games are scheduled against FC Seoul (31 July) and Daegu FC (4 August), if certain conditions are met by the promotor.”
It continued: “If these conditions are met, then the club will travel to South Korea in the coming days.
“FC Barcelona regrets this incident and the impact it will have on the many, many Barça fans in Japan.”
Speaking on the back of joining Barcelona, Rashford said: “It’s a club where dreams come true.
“They win big prizes and what the club stands for really means a lot to me. It feels like I’m at home and it’s a big factor in my choice to come here. It’s a family club and people are comfortable here.”
Barca are expected to be in action next weekend against South Korean team FC Seoul.
