Under Ruben Amorim, United have seen a notable improvement in form, stringing together three consecutive wins against Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton. ..Continue Reading
The Red Devils now occupy sixth place in the Premier League standings, sitting above reigning champions Liverpool and Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea, both of whom suffered defeats in their most recent outings.
Summer arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are beginning to hit their stride, with Mbeumo scoring in the 2-1 victory at Anfield and adding two more goals in the 4-2 win over Brighton at Old Trafford.
Goalkeeper Senne Lammens, another summer addition, has looked dependable in his three league appearances, while forward Benjamin Sesko is still adapting to the demands of English football — though he has managed two goals in nine matches so far.
United’s current squad lacks depth in the striker position. Rasmus Hojlund is out on loan at Napoli, and Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly considering a January loan move due to limited minutes under Amorim.
The club had been linked with a possible move for Robert Lewandowski, the Barcelona and Poland striker, whose contract is set to expire in June.
Despite the 37-year-old being available on a free transfer at the end of the 2025/26 season, the Mirror reports that Ratcliffe has ‘blocked’ any approach from United. Amorim is said to be a long-time admirer of the prolific forward.
Ratcliffe’s decision is believed to stem from concerns over Lewandowski’s expected wage demands. United have previously handed out large contracts to high-profile names such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Edinson Cavani, and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
According to Capology, Lewandowski currently earns around €500,721 (£438,105) per week at Barcelona. Matching that salary would make him United’s second-highest earner, just behind Casemiro, who is reportedly on £450,000 per week.
Lewandowski has spoken in the past about a potential move to United that never materialized. He recalled a conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012, during which he expressed his desire to join the club.
When asked by Rio Ferdinand on his show Rio Ferdinand Presents in 2024 why the transfer didn’t happen, Lewandowski said: “Ask the club, you know… I remember also the conversation with the president of Dortmund. He said to me, they need me. They’re not going to sign me to Manchester United because I’m so important for them, and it’s not the perfect time now.
“So, yeah. But that time I said yes, yeah, that’s true. I said yes to join Manchester United because if Sir Alex Ferguson calls you, you cannot say no, you know. Especially when I was 22 or 23 years old. And, you know, that time I was playing for Dortmund. Even, you know, I was happy, but Manchester United are like the prime of Manchester United, you know.”
