Regardless of how they finish in either competition—both of which they traditionally aim to win—the squad is expected to undergo some changes ahead of next season.
Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is rumored to be on his way to Madrid, and as usual, the summer transfer window is buzzing with names linked to the club.
With potential signings coming in, several players are also expected to leave.
Among those possibly on their way out is a club legend. Luka Modric, who renewed his contract for just one more year last summer, may be leaving after a stellar career with the 15-time European champions.
According to AS, Real Madrid have decided not to offer the Croatian midfielder another extension, meaning he is set to depart the club at the end of the season.
“Despite his advancing years, Real captain Modric has still featured prominently this season and has made 29 appearances in La Liga, 13 of which have been starts,” adds the Daily Mail.
“However, Modric’s time at Real could soon be coming to an end. Since joining from Tottenham in 2012 he has made 583 appearances for the Spanish club and has scored 43 goals, while he has provided 93 assists.
“Modric has won an array of trophies with Real, including six Champions Leagues, four La Liga titles and two Copa Del Reys.”
Luka Modric has earned a reputation as one of the most highly regarded players in world football.
Since arriving at Real Madrid in 2012, he has become increasingly influential, especially in his thirties, playing a crucial role in securing the club’s long-awaited tenth European title—and adding five more Champions League trophies along the way.
On the international stage, the Croatian captain has had an impressive run as well, amassing 186 caps and guiding his national team to a World Cup final in 2018 and a semi-final in 2022.
Although Modric may be nearing the end of his time at the Bernabeu, Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing new signings, including Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen, according to the Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, Madrid will be hoping to mount a comeback against Arsenal in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final, with a refreshed Kylian Mbappe expected to spearhead their efforts.
