Real Madrid suffered another loss at the Bernabeu on Wednesday—their second in four days—as Manchester City claimed a 2-1 victory in the Champions League.

The defeat to Man City means Real Madrid have now managed just two wins in their last eight games across all competitions (D3 L3).
During this spell, they have fallen from leading La Liga comfortably to trailing Barcelona by four points, and their chances of finishing inside the top 8 in the league phase have taken a major hit.
Because of this downturn, speculation has grown over whether Alonso will be dismissed from his role as Real Madrid manager.
Even so, indications suggest he remains secure for now, with The Athletic’s Guillermo Rai noting that senior figures are not “expressing concern” after the loss to Man City.
Consequently, Alonso is certain to oversee Sunday’s clash with Alaves, a match Real Madrid hope will mark a return to positive results.
There are three games remaining before the end of 2025—the trip to Mendizorroza, followed by meetings with CF Talavera de la Reina in the Copa del Rey and Sevilla in La Liga.
However, if Real Madrid lose further ground to Barcelona in the La Liga title race before the winter break, the likelihood of Alonso being dismissed would rise considerably, as the longer interval between fixtures would provide ample time to find a replacement.
Still, that scenario is not currently on Florentino Perez’s mind, though his stance could shift in the weeks ahead.
