Real Madrid president Perez gives Raphael Varane update amid Man Utd interest

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says his team have not received any official bids for Raphael Varane this summer.

Manchester United remain in dialogue with Real over a possible deal for Varane and will seek a compromise over the fee, but are reluctant to meet Madrid’s £80m valuation as he is out of contract next year.

Real are ready to sell Varane to United and have already offset his possible exit by signing auxiliary centre-back David Alaba from Bayern on a free transfer.

But, club president Perez has said it is down to the defender to express his intentions to leave if he really wants to.

“We’ve not received any official bid for Raphael Varane. He’s at the Euros now then we will see what happens – if he wants to leave the club this summer, he’ll say it”.

The possible exit of Varane could be the third seismic change at Real Madrid this summer after the departure of manager Zinedine Zidane and club skipper Sergio Ramos.

Speaking about the loss of Ramos on a free, Perez expressed his sorrow at the decision but said he would one day return to the Bernabeu.

He added: “I love Ramos like a son, I brought him here in 2005 and I’ve never before been to a press conference with a player.

“I have such admiration for him, he has been a legend and we wanted him to stay, we offered him a contract, he had a deadline but didn’t make it clear.

“This is his home and he will return for sure in another role.”
