Reason Arsenal have not completed £52m Noni Madueke transfer

Arsenal have been close to finalizing the signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea for several days now.

However, the £52 million transfer has yet to be officially confirmed. ..Continue Reading

The Gunners have been actively searching for a new winger throughout the summer, and despite some unease among fans about another Chelsea arrival, Madueke appears to be a smart addition—especially with Arsenal needing depth on the right flank.

He’s expected to provide valuable competition for Bukayo Saka, who has carried much of the attacking burden in recent seasons.

Madueke is set to sign a five-year deal with Arsenal, having already completed the necessary steps of the transfer.

So what’s causing the delay in the announcement?

Until last weekend, Madueke was still part of Chelsea’s squad competing in the Club World Cup in the United States. He featured off the bench during their semi-final win over Fluminense on July 8.

As negotiations with Arsenal advanced, Madueke departed Chelsea’s campaign before the final in New Jersey, which the Blues won 3–0 against Paris Saint-Germain.

His involvement in the Club World Cup is the main reason the transfer hasn’t been made official yet.

Although the paperwork is reportedly done, Madueke hasn’t signed the contract as he’s been granted a holiday following his participation in the tournament.

FIFA regulations recommend that players receive at least three consecutive weeks of rest after a season ends, and Madueke is currently taking that break.

Arsenal have allowed him the extended time off and don’t expect him to join the squad for the start of their pre-season tour in Asia. With only one week of rest so far, he’s likely to miss the entire tour.

As a result, it could be a while before the club formally announces the deal.
