Within days of Alonso’s appointment, Real Madrid completed deals for Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, and Franco Mastantuono from River Plate.
But Alonso isn’t just focused on new arrivals—he’s also preparing to trim the squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
One player who may be on the chopping block is Rodrygo, who is said to be increasingly unhappy with his situation at the Bernabéu and has reportedly identified his preferred next destination.
During the Club World Cup, the Brazilian winger was largely overlooked, featuring in only one match, which has fueled speculation about a potential exit.
Since then, Rodrygo has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal.
All three sides have been busy in the transfer market, actively pursuing attacking reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.
However, according to Diario AS, Rodrygo has made it known that if Real Madrid decide to sell him, he wants to choose where he goes—and Arsenal is his top choice.
The report adds that the Gunners are ready to table a €90 million bid, viewing Rodrygo as an ideal replacement for Gabriel Martinelli.
Still, with Arsenal expected to finalize the signing of Chelsea’s Noni Madueke soon, it’s unclear whether their interest in Rodrygo remains as strong.
And with Alonso staying tight-lipped about Rodrygo’s future, there’s still a possibility the Brazilian could remain at Madrid and fight for his spot in the squad.
Speaking after the 4-0 loss to PSG, Alonso adressed the rumours, saying: “There have been no decisions for the future. We haven’t rotated too much in this Club World Cup and the context will be different in the future.”
