Ronaldo & other Man Utd stars unfollow Greenwood after arrest for rape & assault

Cristiano Ronaldo and other Manchester United players have unfollowed Mason Greenwood after the player was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault yesterday.

The 20-year-old spent the night in a police cell after cops arrested him over the allegations which came to light on Sunday morning.

The Premier League club initially released a statement saying it did “not condone violence of any kind,” but later suspended the player as a police probe was launched.

A spokesman for the Red devils said: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”

Now fellow stars at the club have unfollowed their team mate, with Ronaldo being the first to do so after the allegations came to light.

Jesse Lingard, David De Gea, Paul Pogba, Ederson Cavani and Scott McTominay have all unfollowed the England international on Instagram.

Other members of the team, including captain Harry Maguire, are still following him.

The Club’s official Instagram and Twitter pages are still following the player, but confirmed that he was suspended from training and games until further notice.

Crime scene investigators from Greater Manchester Police were seen parked outside his house in Bowdon, Greater Manchester, on Sunday.

Security staff, believed to have been provided by his club, were present at a second home he owns close to the place and they confirmed his parents were inside.

Last night the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) tweeted: “The club has now confirmed that Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.

Manchester United have announced that the England forward has been suspended indefinitely after the allegations surfaced online.

“MUST fully support the decision of the club in this regard.”

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were made aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.

“An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.  “He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.”
