Ronaldo’s key role in persuading Zidane to accept Man Utd job

Manchester United hope Zinedine Zidane’s close relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane could help persuade him to join the Premier League club.

The Red devils have reportedly approached the former Real Madrid manager to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with his future hanging by a thread.

Zidane has already managed Ronaldo and Varane, who both moved to Old Trafford in the summer, during his time at the Bernabeu.

And the club are hoping the fact Zidane knows both players personally can convince him to make the move to Manchester United.

United have their hands full in achieving that outcome, but, as it’s claimed Zidane is not keen on joining a club midway through the campaign.

And Zidane is in no rush to accept a proposal from United, or any other team, as would wait until the summer where he can get a pre-season under his belt to prepare for the upcoming season.

The former Real Madrid coach could also consider taking the France job if it becomes available after the 2022 World Cup.

Ronaldo and Varane have made it clear it’s an appointment they would get behind as they have both praised their former manager.

The Portugal international insists the Frenchman made him feel “special” as he hailed Zidane’s impact in the dressing room with how he treated Real Madrid’s players.

Ronaldo said in 2019: “The confidence that a player needs doesn’t only come from himself but also from the players around him and the coach.

“You need to feel like you are an important part of the group and Zidane made me feel special. “He helped me a lot. I already had a lot of respect for him but working with him made me admire him more.

“That’s because of what he’s like as a person, how he talks, how he led the team and how he treated me.”
