The England international found himself sidelined by Amorim, who consistently questioned Rashford’s commitment in training before approving his loan move to Aston Villa in January. ..Continue Reading
Under Unai Emery, Rashford has shown flashes of his former brilliance, recently netting his first goals for the club in their FA Cup quarter-final win over Preston on Sunday.
Similarly, Antony, another winger who departed Old Trafford in January, has flourished at Real Betis, featuring in every match and playing a crucial role in the team’s resurgence in La Liga.
If Rashford and Antony maintain their strong performances, United could benefit financially in the summer transfer window, as player sales will be essential to support Amorim’s squad overhaul.
When asked about the possibility of reintegrating either player, Amorim avoided giving a direct response ahead of United’s match against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
When quizzed on Rashford specifically, Amorim reiterated he is a ‘top player’ – but tellingly only ‘if he wants’.
‘I know Rashford really well and everybody knows the talent that he has. So I already spoke about that,’ Amorim said.
‘He’s a top player, if he wants. So I’m not surprised. And like I said, it’s the same with Antony, it’s a good thing.
‘We see our players doing well on loan in a different context. That can happen and it’s a good sign for the club.’
Asked whether Rashford still has a future, Amorim added: ‘Guys, let’s focus on the game. We are really happy for our players that are on loan doing well.’
Antony, who was signed from Ajax for a staggering £85 million in 2022, has already indicated that he would prefer to stay in Spain beyond this season.
Similarly to Rashford, Amorim emphasized that he is not presently considering the prospect of the Brazilian international returning to his squad.
‘Yeah I’m planning the future but I don’t want to talk about the future in this moment. I just want to focus on the game.’
Rashford and Antony are part of a group of ten players who might depart from United this summer.
Jadon Sancho may also return to United at the end of the season if Chelsea decides not to proceed with their commitment to purchase the ex-Borussia Dortmund winger.
