Antonio Rudiger responds to new Chelsea contract offer worth £200,000-a-week

Antonio Rudiger has turned down Chelsea’s new contract offer and Manchester United are closely monitoring developments on the player’s situation, according to reports.

The German defender’s deal is due to expire in the summer and he is reported to have already received pre-contract proposals from clubs like Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Rudiger has been important at the back for Thomas Tuchel’s side, forming a key part of the team that won the Champions League last campaign.

But the Germany international is said to have rejected the club’s first offer in the region of £140,000-a-week, which would be an improvement on his current wages of around £100,000-per-week.

And the Daily Mail report that the Blues informally put forward an increased offer worth closer to £200,000-a-week, but that still falls short of what is needed to get him to put pen to paper.

But, Chelsea are still reported to remain optimistic that they can still come to an agreement with the player.

As well as Madrid and PSG, the Red devils are believed to be keeping a close eye on Rudiger’s situation, with United interim boss Ralf Rangnick an admirer of the 28-year-old.

Discussing his situation last month, Rudiger told Sky Sports: ‘I’m fully committed like always, down for the cause. ‘At the end of the day, talks are between my side and the club.’

‘You need to listen to the missus. You have to think about your family, obviously,’ the defender added.

‘But I’ve always said that my kids were born here in London so that tells you that my family feels great here, but the rest is up to other people. ‘They have to make decisions and we will see.’
