Sad reason why Van Dijk doesn’t have his surname on the back of his Liverpool shirt

The real reason Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk opts not to wear his surname on his shirt is a heartbreaking one.

On Wednesday evening, Arne Slot will face one of the most anticipated matches of his first season as Liverpool boss when he takes on Everton in the first Merseyside derby of the season.

Before the match, several of Liverpool’s senior players will likely have been preparing the new manager for the hostile reception at Goodison Park.
