Throughout his career, Salah has come up against some of the finest defenders in European football. When asked in 2023, he singled out two names that left the biggest impression on him.
As reported by The Echo, Salah said to Sky Sports: “There is a few. I’d say (Cesar) Azpilicueta was tough, in the end he ended up playing on the right side but Azpilicueta was tough.
“I played with Ashley (Cole), oh my god, you can see the way he reads the game was unbelievable. I played with him but played against him when I was in Basel, he read the game, he’s very smart.”
He added: “He’s not the tallest but he read the game, was very tough. He’s a great guy, he trained (well) and just a professional guy, you can see his career.”
Mo Salah also went on to name three players he would love to have as teammates.
He said: “(Lionel) Messi or (Cristiano) Ronaldo. If I could pick one in the Premier League, Kevin (De Bruyne). He has vision, I’m sure he could find me anywhere, I could say Messi, Ronaldo or Kevin.
“I don’t defend, I’m looking for goals. He’s (De Bruyne) a great player, the whole team is great, I try to play my game and not focus on anyone else.”
