The English winger, who arrived at Old Trafford in 2021 from Borussia Dortmund in a high-profile transfer, has struggled to live up to expectations.
Over his time at United, he managed just 12 goals and six assists in 83 appearances. ..Continue Reading
His situation worsened following a public fallout with Erik ten Hag in 2023, which led to him being sidelined from the first team for several months.
Seeking a fresh start, Sancho returned to Borussia Dortmund on a six-month loan in January, playing a key role in their run to the UEFA Champions League final, though they ultimately fell short against Real Madrid.
His performances reignited interest from Chelsea, and last summer, he moved to London on a loan deal that included an obligation to buy.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, he featured in 41 matches, scoring five goals, including one in the Conference League final as Chelsea secured European silverware.
However, negotiations over personal terms broke down, and Chelsea opted to pay a penalty fee to send Sancho back to Manchester United instead of making the move permanent.
Now back at Old Trafford under new manager Ruben Amorim, his future remains uncertain. His relationship with United fans is still strained due to his previous dispute with ten Hag and comments he has made about the club.
While speculation had linked him with a return to Borussia Dortmund, sporting director Sebastian Kehl has dismissed those rumors, leaving Sancho’s next move unclear.
He said: “Of course, contact with Jadon is always there, in some way, because we have a very long history.
“We have other priorities at the moment, and therefore the Sancho issue may have been played more in the media than discussed internally.”
With a return to Borussia Dortmund looking unlikely, Manchester United supporters may have to accept that Jadon Sancho could be back at Old Trafford next season.
However, fitting him into Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system presents a challenge.
United have already secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a high-profile transfer to operate on the left side of the attack. Meanwhile, negotiations are ongoing with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, who is being considered for a role on the right.
Mason Mount and Amad are expected to remain at the club, adding further competition in the attacking positions.
Although United are actively looking to offload Antony, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho, they may struggle to secure deals that match their valuation.
Sancho has just one year remaining on his contract, and unless another club steps forward with an offer, United may have no choice but to reintegrate him into the squad.
