According to reports from Germany, Sancho has expressed his wish to part ways with both Manchester United and Chelsea this summer, aiming for a return to Borussia Dortmund.
Currently on a season-long loan at Chelsea, Sancho made the move from United during the final stages of last summer’s transfer window.
While the 25-year-old has displayed moments of brilliance at Stamford Bridge, he has struggled to find consistent form under manager Enzo Maresca.
Under the terms of the loan agreement, Chelsea is obligated to purchase Sancho permanently for £25 million if they finish 14th or higher in the Premier League.
However, if the club opts not to proceed with the transfer, they would owe United a £5 million penalty clause.
Despite Sancho’s inconsistent performances, Chelsea is reportedly planning to finalize a permanent transfer for the winger at the season’s conclusion.
However, Bild claims Sancho’s desire to return to the Bundesliga is intensifying, and he has reportedly instructed his representatives to negotiate a move back to Dortmund.
The report further suggests that Bayer Leverkusen might also be interested in acquiring Sancho if he becomes available in the transfer market.
Sancho made his professional breakthrough at Dortmund after departing Manchester City without making a first-team appearance for Pep Guardiola’s squad in 2017.
During his four years with the German club, he became a standout player before completing a £73 million transfer to Manchester United in 2021.
Last year, Sancho briefly returned to Dortmund on a six-month loan, but financial constraints prevented the Bundesliga club from securing a permanent deal for him despite their impressive run to the Champions League final.
