Peter Schmeichel believes Aaron Ramsdale’s superb save in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Leicester City is one of the best he’s seen in years.

Goals from Gabriel and Smith Rowe sealed the win for the London side, who now move up to fifth in the Premier League and are now nine matches unbeaten in all competitions.

But Mikel Arteta’s team also had Ramsdale to thank after the £30m signing delivered another brilliant display in goal.

The goalkeeper’s biggest save came in the first half as he pulled off an acrobatic stop to deny James Maddison’s free kick before getting across to keep out Jonny Evans’ follow-up strike.

And former Manchester United keeper Schmeichel praised Ramsdale during the match as he tweeted: ‘Best save I’ve seen for years by Ramsdale.’

When asked about his save from Maddison after the match, Ramsdale replied: ‘Maddison is a top free-kick taker and I’ve come up against him a couple of times.

‘It was just one of those days that I was saving everything that was thrown at me and the lads were blocking [the rest of] them.’

Arteta was also full of praise for Ramsdale’s incredible save and overall display for Arsenal.

‘I have just seen the pictures, it was incredible. He saved them both,’ said the Arsenal manager. ‘Those moments, the individual actions they are needed.

‘We created a lot of issues for them. We carried on playing after 1-0 and scored the second. We knew they would change and get at us. There were moments we didn’t manage situations well enough but in the last 20 minutes we modified things and got control back in the game.

‘We need to carry on. We haven’t done anything – we won a couple of matches and we want to improve. There are a lot of positives but there are a lot of things to improve.’
