Paul Scholes names team that will challenge Man City for title over Arsenal

Paul Scholes surprised Jamie Carragher by stating that Liverpool are “better” than Arsenal and pose a greater threat to Premier League champions Manchester City.

In recent years, Arsenal has been Manchester City’s main competition for the Premier League title. Last season, Arsenal finished just two points behind Pep Guardiola’s team and are expected to challenge again this season…Continue Reading

Currently, Arsenal sits third in the standings with 14 points from six matches, tied with Manchester City and one point behind early leaders Liverpool.

Their only dropped points have been in draws with Brighton and Manchester City, showing that Mikel Arteta’s team is off to a strong start as they aim for their first Premier League title since 2004.

For Arsenal to win the title, they will need to finish ahead of Manchester City, who are pursuing their fifth consecutive Premier League championship, as well as Liverpool.

Liverpool were title contenders throughout the 2023-24 season but faltered late in Jurgen Klopp’s final campaign as manager.

Despite some predictions that the team might need time to adapt under Klopp’s successor, Arne Slot, Liverpool has won five out of six games, signaling a great start to his time at Anfield.

Scholes has been particularly impressed by Liverpool and now believes they are stronger than Arsenal, positioning them as Manchester City’s main challengers for the title this season.

‘Do you not think you’ve got a chance? I think you’re better than Arsenal, I think you’re better than Arsenal,’ Scholes said to a Liverpool fan on The Overlap with Sky Bet.

‘They excite me more. It’s not nice saying that but honestly, Liverpool do excite me more.

‘Everything they’ve got, it feels better than Arsenal. I think Pep Guardiola might be more worried about Liverpool than Arsenal.’

Responding to Scholes’ claim, Carragher said: ‘You think Liverpool are better than Arsenal? That’s interesting. I don’t actually.

‘Last season surprised us all with Liverpool being right up there. They were actually top with seven or eight games to go.

‘People are questioning the lack of signings because they think we need to improve to compete with Man City and Arsenal.

‘But one thing I would say is Liverpool had so many injuries last season, it was unbelievable how we kept it going really.

‘If Liverpool don’t have the injuries they had last season, and they mirror their form, they will be in with a shout, they will be there or thereabouts.’
