He’s become the top priority for both clubs after they missed out on other targets like Viktor Gyokeres, Liam Delap, and Joao Pedro.
Newcastle intensified their pursuit by submitting a bid, which was initially turned down, before returning with an improved offer of £70 million in guaranteed fees plus performance-related bonuses.
Manchester United responded with a £74 million proposal, though only £65.2 million of that was guaranteed — making it less appealing than Newcastle’s package.
United considered adding Rasmus Hojlund to the deal, but the forward wasn’t interested in leaving, causing that plan to fall through.
Sesko now faces a choice between United and Newcastle, both of whom are determined to sign him before the new campaign begins.
According to a fresh report from Fabrizio Romano, Sesko has made it clear that his preference is to join Manchester United.
There’s growing optimism within the United camp that the 22-year-old will make the switch to Old Trafford — provided the two clubs can finalize terms.
On X, Romano wrote: “Understand Manchester United’s feeling from earlier today is even stronger tonight… the club believes Benjamin Sesko only wants to join Manchester United.
“Man United forwarded official contract proposal to Sesko while also keep negotiating with RB Leipzig.”
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg backed up Romano’s report by claiming the player is ‘very likely’ to sign for United over Newcastle.
Plettenberg said: “There is and was always a feeling that Benjamin Sesko would choose MUFC over all other current options!
“Nothing has changed in recent days. Manchester United’s offer was crucial. If RB Leipzig and Man Utd reach an agreement, it is very likely that #Sesko will join #MUFC.”
The transfer isn’t finalized yet, as Manchester United are now working to strike a deal with RB Leipzig, confident that Sesko is holding out for them.
United edging ahead of Newcastle in the race for Sesko highlights their enduring influence and worldwide reputation.
Sesko looks poised to link up with Ruben Amorim’s squad, despite their lack of European competition — a contrast to Newcastle, who secured a Champions League spot last season.
