Rashford and Martial were excluded from the starting XI, having collectively scored just four goals thus far.
Sharp-eyed fans swiftly observed that left-back Shaw had ‘liked’ a post containing quotes from Manchester United legend Patrice Evra
The tweet from the Frenchman read: “I think it will be difficult for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to get back into the starting XI.”
Luke Shaw was quick to reply to those who noticed his actions.
The England defender said: “Come on don’t be silly, obviously not intentional.”
Rashford joined the action in the 84th minute, coming on for Rasmus Hojlund, while Martial stayed on the bench as an unused substitute.
Despite scoring 30 goals in the previous season, Rashford has encountered difficulties in maintaining that level of form in the current 2023/24 season.
Speaking after the match, Ten Hag said: “I think, in the first half, we created a lot of chances, by 30 minutes, we could go up by three goals maybe.
“To be fair, they outplayed us as well, one, two or three times and also created chances but you make your own luck when you have the spirit we showed today.”
