Alan Shearer singles out ‘absolutely fantastic’ Man Utd star after Everton win

After their commanding victory over Everton at Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United climbed to ninth place in the Premier League standings.

The win marked Amorim’s first league triumph as United manager, with the home side dominating Sunday’s clash.

Amorim made several changes to his lineup, opting for Joshua Zirkzee as the focal point of the attack—a decision that surprised many fans who had largely written the player off.

Bruno Fernandes played in a more advanced role, while Marcus Rashford thrived alongside a central striker.

However, Alan Shearer, speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, highlighted a different United player as the standout performer of the match. Shearer praised Amad Diallo, who impressed once again in the right wing-back position.

Diallo, who joined United in 2021 for over £19 million, seems to be hitting his stride under Amorim’s management.

Shearer commended Diallo’s exceptional quality and attitude, noting that the 22-year-old has quickly adapted to Amorim’s tactical system and is beginning to show his true potential to the Old Trafford faithful.

Shearer said: “Amad Diallo was absolutely outstanding on the right-hand side. He was fantastic – player of the match. He was a constant threat.

“His work-rate, his attitude, his understanding of what his manager wants from him in that position is brilliant.”

Speaking after Sunday’s win, Amorim was also extremely complimentary about Diallo, but still revealed one area in which he needs to improve.

United will be missing two players against Arsenal owing to suspension, and they’ll need players like Diallo to step up in midweek for what will prove to be Amorim’s biggest challenge yet.

Speaking about Diallo’s performance, Amorim said: “He is really big in talent, but small in size. He did a great job but he also has to improve. He was really good again.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy helped him a lot in his games in charge and now he’s helping me. He’s in a great moment, but that moment started with Ruud. So I just take advantage of Ruud’s work with Amad.

“He was really good defending and really good attacking so he has to continue to play like that.

“You could feel it in the end of the game he was really, really tired so we have to manage that and increase his physical ability.

“I’d like to take credit for [his pressing], but that’s him. He’s like that. He’s smart. He’s explosive.”
