Liverpool currently lead the title race, sitting six points ahead of their nearest rivals, Arsenal, with 17 games remaining.
Many thought it would take time for Liverpool to adapt under new manager Arne Slot after Jurgen Klopp’s departure, but the Reds have lost just once in the league and are now clear favorites for the title. ..Continue Reading
Few anticipated Manchester City’s drop in form, but Arsenal seemed poised to capitalize, having finished second the last two seasons.
However, Mikel Arteta’s team has been inconsistent, drawing eight of their 22 games, which leaves them with work to do to claim their first Premier League title since 2004.
At one point, Nottingham Forest, who fought relegation last season, were ahead of Arsenal with an impressive 44 points from 22 matches.
Champions League football isn’t out of reach for Forest, and the same goes for Chelsea, who have shown promise under Enzo Maresca, becoming top-four contenders.
Man City, Newcastle United, Bournemouth, and Aston Villa are all within one win of the Champions League spots with just under half the season to go.
Sherwood believes Liverpool will be the team to end Manchester City’s recent dominance in the Premier League and has predicted how the rest of the top-four positions will unfold.
‘I think at this stage you would be mad to say Liverpool won’t win the Premier League,’ Sherwood told Metro via Discasino.
Current Premier League table:
Liverpool
Arsenal
Nottingham Forest
Chelsea
Manchester City
Newcastle United
Tim Sherwood’s top-four prediction:
Liverpool
Arsenal
Manchester City
Chelsea
‘They’ve got the experience across the team and they’ve got world-class players in every position. Liverpool are uncatchable for me.
‘It’s a dogfight for the rest of the positions but I think Arsenal will find a rhythm and be tough to catch for some of the other teams that are looking at that top-four.
‘They had that sticky patch – exiting the FA Cup and they have a mountain to climb in the League Cup – and I don’t think they can win the league. But it’s not a write-off season for Arsenal.
‘My other two are Man City and Chelsea. I think City will put a run together. I wouldn’t say they’re back to what we knew they were but once they get a few results, we know the calibre of players they have and we know how well they finish seasons.
‘They can’t win the league but I think they’ll finish well and push Arsenal for second. I even think they’re capable of winning the Champions League.
‘Newcastle are having such a good run and Nottingham Forest have done so well but I think Chelsea might just pip it [the final top-four spot].
‘I think Forest will just drop out. Nuno [Espirito Santo] has done an amazing job and they’re such a well-drilled and organised team with a great counter-attack.
‘But I think Chelsea will get it. Enzo Maresca has turned them around despite this little blip.
‘They weren’t ready to challenge for the title but they’re certainly making strides forward and I think they will get fourth, just.’
Alan Shearer thinks last weekend was a crucial turning point in the title race, with Liverpool scoring two injury-time goals to defeat Brentford, while Arsenal lost points at home against Aston Villa.
Speaking after his Brentford team were downed by the Premier League leaders, Thomas Frank said: ‘I think overall a good performance against a fantastically good team that I think is the best team in the Premier League.
‘Of course, they are number one, so I don’t think that’s a surprise to anyone, but probably also the best team in the world.
‘We just played against City and Arsenal and now Liverpool in short succession, I think they are a level above the two others right now, more complete in all phases on the game, yeah… very good, exceptionally good.’
