There’s increasing worry in Merseyside that the right-back might move to Spain either this month or during the summer, with no signs of a new contract being agreed at Anfield.
The Dutch manager revealed that he has had discussions with Alexander-Arnold but remained reserved about the specifics.
“I speak to every player and for Trent it is the same, so I have spoken to him, yeah,” admitted Slot. “Do you really think I’ll tell you what I said? I understand you ask but you know the answer, these conversations, I’ve never shared.
“It’s just the same, I talk to them (the players) about things. It was a conversation as many others we had, me and Trent and let’s leave it to that.
And the manager also denied that the transfer speculation was a distraction, insisting Alexander-Arnold is fully focused on playing for Liverpool. “If it did at this club (prove a distraction), then we would really have a problem.
“One of the biggest clubs, everyone always talks about you for 12 months, sometimes in relation to other clubs. If that destabilises them then there is a problem, not only now but also last six months.”
Alexander-Arnold has remained tight-lipped about his future, but meanwhile, he has been pivotal in Liverpool’s title challenge, once again shining in the 5-0 victory against West Ham last Sunday.
Slot mentioned that the England international still has room for growth and can further his career at Liverpool.
He also defended Alexander-Arnold against previous criticisms regarding his defensive positioning.
“Trent can improve but these players are top of the world so not much more they can improve,” he continued.
“But Trent defensively has made a step up. Outstanding in some games but up and down in some too, so it’s about consistency for top players and that is where the biggest improvement can come.”
