Solskjaer names the three ‘proper professionals’ from his time at Man Utd

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former manager of Manchester United, has reflected on his tenure at the club and highlighted three players as ‘true professionals.’

Solskjaer led Manchester United in 127 Premier League matches, initially as interim manager following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal, before being appointed full-time.

During his time, he achieved 59 victories in the league, securing a second-place finish behind Manchester City in the 2020/21 season.

However, Solskjaer’s tenure came to an end in November 2021 following a humiliating 4-1 loss to Watford.

The 50-year-old remains out of management since his three-year stint in England, and he has recently shared insights into his time at the club where he achieved the treble as a player.

Today, one of the major worries at United is the players’ professionalism. This season alone, Erik ten Hag excluded Jadon Sancho from the first team, and Marcus Rashford’s visit to Belfast sparked controversy.

During the recent interview, Solskjaer identified the players he never encountered disciplinary problems with, and only one of them remains with the club.

“I loved a midfield of Fred, Scott McTominay, and Nemanja Matic. Proper professionals who give it everything. You know what you’re going to get and as a manager it’s nice to know what you’re going to get. It’s the worst thing ever when you don’t know if a team is going to turn up or not,” The former United manager explained.

Despite the bitter conclusion to his tenure at Old Trafford, Solskjaer appears to reminisce warmly about his time and the work he accomplished for United.

“But I fulfilled my initial remit at United, I got people smiling again. Got the team winning. Lay down the foundations for good performances against all teams. And I did that.

“We were unbeaten away from home for 29 games. It’s not easy to do that. We went to places like Manchester City and beat them. We didn’t win the league but, trust me, to finish second and third with the squad I had was an achievement,” He stated proudly.
