Solskjaer ‘ignores Van de Beek’ & makes last-gasp Man Utd transfer decision

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has snubbed Donny van de Beek’s request to leave Manchester United on loan for Everton today – with his agent calling the decision “disappointing”.

Van de Beek played only some matches for the Red Devils last season after his £35m switch from Ajax and was expected to leave after just one campaign.

But Solskjaer gave the midfielder assurances as this season got underway, telling the press: “Donny knows that when he keeps on performing and training how he does for us, he’ll be fit and ready when he plays.”

Van de Beek U-turned on his decision to leave United, with his agent Guido Albers telling De Telegraaf: “Everyone within the club knows that Donny cannot have another season like last year. In preparation, clarity would be provided about his role.

“The fans had already embraced him before, but the most important thing is that the coach has now provided clarity in the English press. We are happy with that. I assume that Donny will play a lot in one of the positions in midfield in the coming period.”

But three matches into the new campaign and Van de Beek is yet to play any game for United, prompting Everton to make a last-gasp approach to sign him on loan this Tuesday.

According to numerous reports, Van de Beek is keen on the switch but Red Devils manager Solskjaer has blocked the loan move – a decision that has not gone down well with the midfielder or his agent.

Speaking to Voetbal International, Albers said of Everton’s transfer approach: “Manchester United are holding everything back,” and: “It’s disappointing that United are not cooperating.”

He added: “Today I have been trying to find a club for Donny. Everyone knows the situation. We worked very hard for it, but the club is blocking everything. There was much interest from Italy, Germany and England.”

The Red devils, meanwhile, claim they didn’t make Van de Beek available for sale and that no formal bids came in for him.
