Jude Bellingham has been cleared of any wrongdoing regarding the alleged slur aimed at Manchester United’s loanee, Mason Greenwood, last month.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has dismissed the case against Bellingham after accusations surfaced that he had directed a derogatory term (rapist) towards Greenwood during Real Madrid’s match against Getafe on February 1.
- Arteta names the Premier League team who always make Arsenal ‘suffer’
- De Bruyne named who he would prefer to play with between Ronaldo & Messi
- Mourinho named the ‘dream’ player he regrets not coaching in his career
While television cameras captured Bellingham mouthing a two-syllable word towards Greenwood after a tackle, sideline microphones failed to capture the exact words spoken.
Getafe reported the incident to match officials, who documented it in their report to La Liga, prompting the RFEF to open an investigation.
An expert lip-reader was consulted, but the RFEF concluded that there was insufficient evidence to determine the word Bellingham used. Consequently, no disciplinary action will be taken against the Real Madrid midfielder.
Greenwood joined Getafe last summer following his release from Manchester United due to an internal investigation stemming from his arrest in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape, controlling behavior, and assault.
However, all charges against Greenwood were dropped last February. Despite initial considerations for his reintroduction into the first team, United faced significant backlash, leading to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s new co-owner, leaving the decision open for Greenwood’s future at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Getafe’s president stated last month that Greenwood expressed interest in extending his stay with the Spanish club for another season.
‘He has a clear conscience, he is very comfortable and crazy about staying another year,’ said Getafe president Angel Torres.
‘It’s a matter that they [United] have to decide. There is new ownership. They have to decide.
‘In Spain he has a market but they [Barcelona] have money. Barca’s way of playing would suit him well but it depends on Manchester United. If it’s true, he’ll tell me.’
