Raheem Sterling makes decision over Man Utd swap deal as Arsenal stance revealed

Raheem Sterling’s position on a potential transfer to Manchester United has been disclosed as Chelsea prepares for internal discussions regarding his future.

The former Manchester City and Liverpool star has unexpectedly become a target for United as the transfer window draws to a close.

Reports from Sunday night indicate that Sterling might be involved in a swap deal with Chelsea, where Jadon Sancho, who is looking to leave, would move in the opposite direction.

Sancho, who had been part of Erik ten Hag’s pre-season plans after their public disagreement last summer, is unlikely to be included in the manager’s strategy for the upcoming season.

Consequently, United is eager to part ways with the £73 million winger, who joined the club only three years ago ….

The chances of completing the swap deal might improve since Sterling is reportedly open to the idea of moving from Chelsea to Old Trafford.

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs suggests that while Sterling would not reject a move to United if it becomes a reality, there is still considerable progress needed before a deal is finalized.

The report also mentions that Sterling and Chelsea are expected to have internal discussions soon as the club seeks to establish an exit strategy for the 29-year-old.

United might have an advantage in their pursuit of Sterling, considering he has previously expressed his admiration for the club.

Despite playing for United’s two biggest rivals, City and Liverpool, Sterling has admitted to being a Manchester United fan during his youth.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror in 2019, he said: “I shouldn’t really say this – not now, definitely not now! – but when I was young I was a massive United fan.

“I had an old United kit, from when they won the last FA Cup. I was at the final in 2007.

“If two or three of the kids could be inspired, then that’s all I was trying to do. Purely, that’s how I felt at the time.

“If there was a kid who had a chance of being a footballer, hopefully that will give them motivation or inspiration to change their dreams.”

However, according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are not presently planning to lure Sterling away from their London rivals Chelsea, although this stance could shift as the transfer deadline approaches later in the week.

Before Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, Mikel Arteta expressed his deep admiration for Sterling, a player he worked closely with during his time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.

Sterling signed for Chelsea in 2022 for £50million and has made 81 appearances since.
